Hi,
haven't found any category related to jumpstart on the bug reporting page.
So perhaps somebody is able to point me to the right URL or submit this
one to the appropriate people:
Subject: add_install_client for x86 (10u3 as well as snv_56+) may cause
boot problems
DESC: add_install_client creates a directory like
/tftpboot/I86PC.Solaris_10-1 and also silently adds a lofs entry like
this into /etc/vfstab:
/pool1/install/i386/Solaris_11/boot - /tftpboot/I86PC.Solaris_11-1 lofs
- yes ro
So if e.g. /tftpboot resides on the / ufs and the
/pool1/install/i386/Solaris_11/boot on zfs, the machine can't boot
properly anymore, because mount -a fails (i.e. local-fs service fails)
since the zpool/zfs is not available at this time. So one gets a
behavior comparable to Solaris 9-, when a local fs is damaged...
IMHO x86 add_install_client should check the src and dst, and if they
are on different fs types, one should avoid lofs in favor of copying the
boot directory from the install media to the appropriate tftpboot
directory...
-----------------
FYI
The real problem is the order of zfs/lofs mounts - it tries to do the
lofs mounts before the zfs mounts
are done, which then fail. So if you then go into the shell and try
again, it works, because the zfs
mounts are now done, and it can do the lofs mounts. so you don't
actually need to remove the lofs mounts.
Sincerely,
Neal
