It was a bad idea to have it on by default, it would affect more
people than I thought.

It's now an option you have to enable and it's called autocrop. Use it
like this:

vips dzsave CMU-1.mrxs[autocrop] my_pyramid

and you'll just get the real pixels in your pyramid.
