font-size:10pt;"><div>Randy, </div> <div> </div>
<div>I hesitated to post again after the last post you gave about reading your full \
post before suggesting. I would like to remind that the OpenSim \
community here is purely volunteers.. And everyone here on the list \
here is also a volunteer, I tend to take the suggestions here with a grain of salt \
and take all the information and use it as it works for me.. \
Please excuse me if I sound rude here.. But I was a little taken back \
Randy by your previous post... I was trying to help I just did not \
understand your network situation as the "verifying ip issue" tends to be a network \
addressing problem.. And Ip issues are never a simple setup.. </div> \
<div> </div> <div>Oh FYI: As for the documentation on the OpenSim site, \
for my experience with the documentation for the most part it is written so that \
is OS generic unless OS specific details are needed.. And from \
experience writing documentation.. MY hats off to the people who volunteer \
their time to write the documentation... </div> <div> </div>
<div>Now Randy to answer your question... </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Yes it is very possible to run multiple instances of opensim on multiple \
computers.. My grid is setup that way..</div> <div>1 computer has 5 \
instances of opensim running on it, while another computer has another 5 instances of \
opensim running on it.. Also My robust is running on another computer... \
oh just for info my webserver running things like groups, offline messages, \
search and of course my main website is running on another computer.. And as \
per your request I am on Ubuntu doing just that.. I have ran Opensim on windows \
in the past and found that the operating over head of windows became a problem but I \
am experienced at running windows in any situtation.. </div> \
<div> </div> <div>As far as details on how to setup a grid with distributed \
network with multiple instances on multiple computers..</div> <div>The setup is \
basically the same you just have to specify in your GridCommon.ini of each instance \
of opensim to point to the ip of the your robust server (notice I said IP, if all the \
computers are on the same network and not across the internet or through a firewall \
you can use your internal network ips.. ) the exception being where the references to \
hypergrid in the Gridcommon.ini then you need to put your actual domain name in \
those references. I suggest you also use different ports under network \
section of the opensim.ini for each for each instance of opensim \
you run even if they are on different computers.. Keep track of each port \
you use so you do not get confused.. If you do as I suggested you \
will have to open up the different port ranges on your firewall/router to each of the \
computers you run to allow network traffic in from the internet. That is one \
way I have setup my grid and seems to work well.. Oh just a small note \
here, I run an instance of mysql server on each machine just to reduce network \
traffic, though I seem to recall that windows maybe a little different with it's over \
head and computer.. And all this information is documented either on the \
website or as notes in the actual .ini's themselves... </div> \
<div> </div> <div>As a few people has pointed out, Justin being one of \
them.. Opensim runs very well on a distributed network provided you have \
the money, network and resources to setup such a grid.. </div> <div> </div>
<div> Oh one more note Randy if you still interested in splitting your robust it \
works also. I have ran a split robust on hypergrid 1.5 it worked well but \
I did run into some issues with between grid IMs and transferring item \
between one user on one grid and another user on another grid.. I have not \
tried under hypergrid 2.0, I changed direction and did not continue working \
with a split robust.. but here is the link for doing that:</div> <div><A \
href="http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Configuration">http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Configuration</A> the \
information is about 2/3s down the page, Justin did a great job of documenting that \
information.. Perhaps if I get another computer to run another instance of \
robust I will try to split my robust up more or at least split the asset server off \
my main robust like OSgrid has..</div> <div> </div>
<div>Randy if you need any more info or want more detailed info here is my email \
addy, as more detail information on the list may drag this thread out a little longer \
then it should... </div> <div><A \

<div>Thanks,</div>
