Erwann,

I've also noticed similar problems when running many other TCP/IP applications
under windows. This happens if you have a dialup adapter that is disconnected.
If you connect to the internet the lag disappears as the DNS is reachable.

Cheers,
Richard.

I have found the reason why it takes 40 seconds to resolve NameService on the
other PC (less powerful), but i can't explain exactly why :

All those problems (see below) occur when the PC is not connected to the
network.

I use localhost adress to acces to NameService ("-ORBInitRef
NameService=corbaloc::localhost:5001/NameService") and all my corba objects are
launched locally (for testing) on the same PC.

Therefore it should not need to be conected to the network.

It sounds as if, when looking for the NameService and invoking method on it, ORB
was trying to look on the network before using a lot of time trying to resolve
it ?

Any idea ?

Erwann Poupart.

Objet : [openorb-users] Minimal configuration to run openorb Nameservice on
windows

Hello everybody,

My application running several corba objects registered on openorb nameservice
works fine on a PC pentium4 1.7Ghz Win NT, 256 Mo RAM.

NameService rebind() and list() method process fast and efficiently and
everything is fine.

But when i try to run this application on a PC pentium2 350 Mhz WinNT, 128 Mo
RAM, it's completely different :

It takes nearly 30 seconds to resolve the NameService, rebind() and list()
methods take much more time, and worst, sometimes NameService lose corba objects
as if they were not registered, and from the clients, i get sometimes null
pointer exception when calling rebind() and list() methods on NameService
reference !

Can somebody give me some light on this issue ?

Is there a problem running Java application on Windows ?

Should i try with linux ?

Is there a minimal configuration to avoid those problems ?

Thank you by advance for any information on this issue.

Regards,

Erwann Poupart.
