The thing I found a pain was that it created a new subdirectory for
itself on my home directory, so I had to re-customize everything like
fonts, inches vs. centimeters, etc. all over again.

I had to do the same thing with 1.0 -> 1.0.1.

Is OpenOffice capable of installing "on top of" an existing
installation, or at least pulling the user preferences from a previous
installation?  It's darn annoying to have to reset everything every
time.
