I see that this has been answered - exactly what I would do.

I hadn't tried this in OOo until you asked, but while the behaviour is 
different from Word's (Split Table in the first row), it is pretty 
straightforward - simply hit enter before you add any text (or by placing 
the cursor before the text), which is a neat way of doing it.
