Subject:    problem with API examples: the server socket is not starting...

i downloaded the openoffice 638 binaries and installed on Windows NT/SP6.
i then downloaded the 638 source and tried to run the example:
    odk/examples/java/DocumentConverter
the build worked fine. 

then i started open office with
    soffice "-accept=socket,host=localhost,port=8100;urp;StarOffice.ServiceManager"
and tried to run the given example using the same socket parameters
but i got a "ConnectionRefused". when i checked the open server
sockets on my machine (netstat -a), i couldn't find any for port 8100. any idea
what could be wrong.
