I have also noticed this problem.

After some searching, I found that this is issue #14483. You can go vote 
for it at <http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=14483>.

More votes = action. It was first filed in May 2003, so it is something 
that I would like to see addressed.
