Les,

I ran that and realized it was not connecting like it should.  After reloading a \
snapshot and going again VERY carefully through the Postgresql config directions I \
was able to install opennms with success.  My guess is either a commented/failed to \
uncomment something in the hb_conf file, or previous work screwed up something \
somewhere else.

Does:
psql -U postgres
from the command line connect with no password when you are not running as the \
postgres user?
