did you use the "proxy" instructions on that page?  If so, it wouldn't
work unless you were running squid or something.

I've removed that from the instructions since most people would not need
to do that, and a localhost proxy wouldn't make any difference anyways.

Also, any particular reason you're not building 1.5.90?  It has a number
of bugfixes over 1.3.11.
