Thanks for that; I'd been trying to keep the system in the RPM stream  
for manageability but the frustration of it not working was far  
outweighing the benefits so I've given in to the lure of the tar  
file.  All is up and working nicely now - I just need to tidy up an  
init script for this so it starts up on boot and I'm done.
