email and pager email use the default mailer for your system (i.e. / 
bin/mail ) while javaEmail and javaPagerEmail use a built in MTA  
which is configured in the etc directory (javamail.properties).

If you can send mail from the command line and your network is small  
(say, less than 500 devices) you should be able to use "email" just  
fine. If it is a larger network, you may want to use javaEmail as  
sometimes there is a problem with using the external e-mail command  
(people have experience hung /bin/mail processes with large amounts  
of notices).

Check the release notes for info on javamail.
