Yes, there is a "Manage Surveillance Categories" link in the Admin section of the \
OpenNMS Web Console GUI.

Can the categories in the surveillance-views.xml automatically be populated like they \
are in the categories.xml file? Marc J. Ritorto

Actually Marc, if you try my suggestion I think you will get exactly what you want.

For example, I created a user group called Webmail (for a group who looks after the \
webmail app and servers, etc.) then added the Category called Webmail to the group. \
And added the users names to the group. Then I added their nodes to the Category \
called Webmail (and to prod, dev, and test as appropriate.) Then I added the category \
called Webmail to surveillance-views.xml

And when the user who belongs to the group logs in and sees the dashboard, the user \
sees the Category called Webmail in the Surveillance view, etc. in the three \
subcategories called prod, test and dev. If the user clicks on Node List all he sees \
his the nodes in the Category called Webmail (the other nodes are not displayed.)

I am looking for ability to click on the link on website sql servers and then see the \
production, deve& QA. now maybe I should be doing this under maps instead of using \
categories.

Basically can there be subcategories like this

sql servers
production sql servers
qa sql servers
dev sql servers

and at the same time have the categories display on either the surveillance or \
dashboards section of opennms

If I understand your question correctly, yes. By default you already have everything \
in "prod", "test" and "dev" which are just names that you can make Prod, QA, or \
whatever. Or add more categories. A device can be in more than one category. Just add \
the appropriate category(s) to the group ...
