Hello community!

First, let me say that I am new to the group and I hope that I am not
posting about something irrelevant and/or duplicative. I've searched
the archive and not found anything that relates to my topic and I hope
that it is applicable to this group. If not, please tell me to go
away!

I am attempting to build IcedTea 8 from source and run the unit tests.
I understand that process and I have successfully built and ran 'make
hotspot-check'. Although there are a number of unit tests that do not
pass, I would imagine that is a result of my local ./configuration
invocation. I'm not too worried about that. If I should be worried,
please correct me!

My real goal with this is to take the built JVM, make some
modifications and rerun the hotspot checks to see if everything still
passes. This seems doable. I have done this with other open source
packages. I usually just find the binary (in this case libjvm.so), do
the modifications, replace the old one with the new one and rerun the
unit tests. There are obviously details specific to each package, but
that's the general outline.

I figured that I could do that here, too. Does anyone see a reason why
this would not be plausible?

Again, please let me apologize if I am asking a) a dumb question, b) a
redundant question, or c) an off-topic question. I will gladly go away
if told!

Thanks, in advance, for offering any advice!

Will
