Summary: Akita won't use TCP/IP-over-USB with WinXP
Product: Openembedded
Version: OpenZaurus 3.5.4.x
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Distributions
AssignedTo: openembedded-issues at lists.openembedded.org
ReportedBy: armagon_ca at yahoo.ca
QAContact: tinderbox-oe at gmx.net
Summary, (and additional notes):
--------------------------------
It is not possible to establish a TCP/IP-over-USB connection from a Sharp
Zaurus C1000 (Akita) to a PC running Windows XP.
As I understand it, this also fails with the C3x00 models (and perhaps all
devices with a pxa27x processor), but does work with a the Sharp Zaurus C7x0
models.
It should also be noted that the C1000 uses TCP/IP-over-USB with linux-based
PCs just fine. [I don't suppose there's a place to file a bug report on
Microsoft's implementation of things?]
Steps To Reproduce:
-------------------
The steps to follow are here:
http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11785&view=findpost&p=119530
These steps detail how to establish a TCP/IP-over-USB connection between a
Zaurus (a C860, in this case), and Windows XP. [These steps then link to a
graphical step-by-step explanation, which could not be reproduced here.]
Expect Results:
---------------
The same steps that work for the Sharp Zaurus C860 should work for the C1000
and later clamshells.
Actual Results:
---------------
When the Windows driver is nearly installed, and you are on the "Please wait
while the wizard installs the software..." dialog [step 11 in the graphical
step-by-step instructions], the three buttons "Back", "Next", and "Cancel"
remain greyed out and the animation of a file copying continues playing
indefinitely. Windows never gets past this step.
In short, the driver does not completely install.
[This was noted a couple of posts later in that thread I linked to,
specifically in replies 27, 28, and 29.]
