I really haven't cared much about DVD-R, there are multiple standards
out, and the media is expensive, then again so are the drives.  I can
get AIT2 drives off of ebay for 350$ day and night and they support 100G
compressed.  That is WAY more then I can fit on a DVD.  Plus there are
way more options for writing to tape then there are for writing to DVD.
