This is one of the features that CTWM has, and that I messed when I
switched to OpenBox.

The drawback is, however, that you always need to move to the right of
the menu choice (or use the right arrow key) to have it expanded.

The advantage of this drawback is that the chance of activating slow
dynamic menus gets significantly smaller.

Anyway, I would really like this feature but I managed to live without 
it :) .
