If you are using CLOB then you can use the TO_LOB function
LONG to CLOB
LONG RAW to BLOB

Look into AskTom website for hints

Do you know how to convert a LONG type to VARCHAR2 in Oracle?

I'm currently looking at the CAST function, but I don't know if it will
work.  I don't think CONVERT will work.
