Does the table have the auto-gen types set?  We had a system that was
generated using CASE 5.1 and the auto-gen was done at the forms level
instead of the database.  The auto-generated fields contained $$USER$$ as
the default value.  After one of our upgrades some of these fields started
getting populated with this value versus the actual user that was logged
on.   I would check the table definition, the TAPI or the triggers firing
when the table inserts, and the forms used to insert the data.  It looks
like a hold over of some kind to me.

$Sys_Def$ is a default value that is being inserted into a column when the
data being inserted to the column is actually null. Dose this string mean
anything to the database some how? DB version is 7.3.3........
