I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but Akeeba
Subscriptions<http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/e-commerce/membership=
-a-subscriptions/19528>
has
a great built-in graph. You can see it at http://goo.gl/NsPDH.

Maybe you can look at his code and see what he used?
