Summary: Ntpd forgets the DNS name specified with the server
                    config command
           Product: ntp
           Version: stable
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: ntpd
        AssignedTo: stenn@ntp.org
        ReportedBy: gregquoire@caramail.com
                CC: bugs@ntp.isc.org

Hello,

I use a NTP Server with a dynamic IP to synchronize other server on the
Internet. To do that, I use dynamic DNS system. Suppose the NTP Server has
ntp.example.com domain name.
So, I put the following server config command in my NTP Clients config:
   server ntp.example.com iburst
All works fine, until the NTP Server ntp.example.com changes its IP, because of
a deconnection for instance. Indeed, ntp.example.com corresponds now to the new
NTP Server IP, but the NTP Clients "ntpq -pn" always give me the old NTP Server
IP. Of course, the NTP Clients stop to tell they are synchronized after a while
time.
So I think that Ntpd keeps only the servers'IP which it resolved when it started.

Maybe you could tell me if this is an intentional fonctionality, or something
which could be change.

Thanks

Gregoire Baron
