The patch originated in the FreeBSD world, where I was trying to eat the fd
that was previous to the socket() call the log descriptor and had the bad
flags.  Three seemed enough to make sure I was into virgin fd territory, at
a minimum it eats us past 0,1,2 the stdin, stdout, stderr fd's.

Hi Burton,

The patch looks good. You can actually see it waste the fd 0 :) Btw, are you
sure it needs to waste *three* fd's? Seems like in this case one is enough.
