im using a custom ldap module, nss_ldap and the native ldap modules across 5.1 to \
5.3. ive had issues at times with ML changes which then required me to recompile (in \
the non native cases). when you say silently, do you not even see any connection \
attepts to the ldap server (through ethereal or other trace method). can you do \
truss id <ldap user> and see what happens. i had a recent issue with openssh+gssapi \
that required me to update to the latest nss_ldap on 5.2ML5 and it has been working \
fine, (openldap as the ldap server).

We just upgraded an RS/6000 from AIX 5.1 to 5.2 and are having the same
problem with nss_ldap. It has been working fine for us since AIX 4.2.1,
including on AIX 5.1. But under 5.2 I simply get no joy.

Compiled fine with -
LD="/usr/ccs/bin/ld" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-brtl -L/opt/freeware/lib"
CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/freeware/include"
CFLAGS="-I/opt/freeware/include" ./configure
--with-ldap-conf-file=/etc/nss_ldap.conf --with-ldap-dir=/opt/freeware
--with-ldap-secret-file=/etc/ldap.secret --with-ldap-lib=openldap
