Doug,
  It wasn't you. I 'reused' the for loop variable. If I had actually
READ and tried to understand it I would have seen the need for a SHORT
in the code snipett just before that loop

Global catID as Short
catID = SysTrapFunc( 259, 2, dbRef, "XYZ" ) 'CategoryFind
If catID > 15 Then
MsgBox "Category not found"
End If

  Thank you for your help. I have also downloaded lots of the files
from this group to analysis. More questions coming up.
