Rick,

When databases are transferred using HotSync, they are
in fact created "fresh", with HotSync updating the
header and transferring each record one at a time.
How HotSync handles each record depends on whether you
are using a custom conduit, or - if none exists - the
default conduit.

The fact that the database's creator ID gets modified
suggests to me that the creator ID of your database
matches the creator ID of another application that has
a custom conduit, or that the database has the same
name as the database of a different application (with
a different creator ID than your application).

Use FileZ or a similar application to see if another
application or database has the same name or creator
ID.

Another possibility is that the database sent through
VersaMail is still in the format used on the handheld,
which isn't the same as the format used on the
desktop.
