The Palm OS (PalmSource) has already been purchased by a Japanese company (Access) \
that develops software for cell phones. They claim they will continue to develop and \
support the OS but nobody seems to know in what manner they are going to do it since \
their largest customers are Chinese cell phone manufacturers. The failure of \
PalmSource to release a multi-threaded OS (OS 6) and the purchase of PalmSource by \
Access may be the reason that Palm decided to get in bed with \
Microsoft. I guess they figured that "if you can't beat them, join them".

John \

> This is the second time this has been mentioned in this forum this \
> week, and it really disappoints me to think that Palm would
> abandon \
the
> better concepted OS for use with handhelds to appease the
> \
"Windowites"
> out there. If you compare the simplicity of the Palm OS to \
windows
> CE
> it seems that palm got it right. (Of course they did \
have the
> advantage
> of studing Windows, Mac, Linux, OSBE, Dos, etc. \
to see what worked
> and
> what didn't.
> I really hope that \
someone purchases the rights to the Palm OS,
> and
> continues to \
support it.
>
> Ted
>
>
>
> --- In \
