Where does it time out?

During dhcp? restart dhcpd on the frontend.
TFTP? Check xinetd

During kickstart?
Run
rocks list host profile compute-0-X
to verify that you can properly generate the kickstart.

You might want to check /var/log/messages too see what is going on on your FE.
