Thanks for the info!

I guess more to the point is that I can create an account and by default it will make \
the home directory in /export/home. All of the old accounts are in /home. If I try to \
create the account and make /home/XXXX the home folder I cannot create the home \
folder there. I get access denied.

At this point I cannot log into the cluster via Remote Desktop. I can log into the \
cluster via putty, but it cannot write my ssh keys as the /home/XXXX folder does not \
exist and cannot be created. Once in via putty I pwd and I am sitting at /

Ideas?

What command are you using to create the user accounts? I use

  useradd -g PRIMARY-GROUP john

to create an account for john with PRIMARY-GROUP as the primary unix group.

/home/ in a Rocks cluster is a pretty magical place. It is a mount point for \
/export/home/ and the contents (i.e., the user's folder) is mounted on demand (i.e., \
when a user logs in) and disappear after a while. It is the expected/designed \
behavior.
