This functionality seems to be under active development.  The parameters 
controlling what to do when out of memory situations occur differs between 
kernel versions.

Take a peek in /proc/sys/vm/ and read the kernel docs for an explanation.

We have been toying around with overcommit_memory and overcommit_ratio, but 
run into strange problems when enabling these to prevent oversubscription of 
memory.  After a while users start getting segfaults without any logical 
reason, so be warned.
