The big plus for Branch Office is the ability to connect and provision a remote \
office without a private network. If you already have a private network, then a \
regular server will be much easier to manage. As you indicated, you can run rsync as \
a service on NW6.5 to sync data back to a central site for backup. I don't believe \
you're going to be able to get a backup of the open GW databases using rsync. You'll \
need to opy them to a separate location if you want to sync them back. BO is \
supposed to support a "cached" GW PO, but I haven't tested it myself.

Is anyone out there using Novell Branch Office 2.0? If so, what is your opinion of \
it? We're on the fence about whether or not to use it.
We bought it thinking it would be a good fit for our secondary location, liking the \
idea of replicating their data back to the central office and backing it up there.
However, the more I read the documentation, the more leery I am of trying to upgrade \
this way. We have an existing NetWare 5.0 server at the location, and a GroupWise 5.5 \
post office. Central office is already upgraded to NW65/GW65.
We did some testing this past weekend. The Branch Office was very hands-off, and it \
installed into its own little tree and connects to CO via LDAP. I'm not sure I like \
that. I don't see any good documentation on how to move existing users into this new \
tree, nor how to move their GroupWise accounts to the new GW 6.5 post office the \
Branch Office appliance will create.
We have a private leased line between the two locations, and that's not likely to \
change since we use it for interconnecting phone systems as well as data. NBO seems \
better suited to new deployments at locations that only have an Internet connection. \
We can use rsync standalone to back up data (though not sure how well that works \
with GroupWise databases - does it handle those ok?). Is there any compelling reason \
that I'm not seeing why we should use Branch Office vs. just installing this box as a \
normal NetWare 6.5 server?
