This is a short announcement for
a new, independent, Novell User Group for Scotland.

Scottish Technical Advisory Group (STAG)

What is STAG?

With the advent of NovellAs purchase of SUSE and XIMIAN, combined with their
more traditional offerings, network development has never before covered such
a wide spectrum. STAG has been established as a forum to enable technical
computing staff to exchange ideas and to learn from and help each other.

With representatives from the diverse user communities a steering committee
has been formed comprising:

Alan MacDonald (Stirling Council) u Chairman and local government
John OAReilly (Morton Fraser) u Secretary and corporate
Andy Swiffin (University of Dundee) u Academic institutions
Peter Atkins (Mindworks Inc Ltd) u Event organisation and website

The committee also gratefully acknowledge James Stewart (Novell) and
Tim Heywood (NDS8) for their continued assistance and support for the group.

User driven technical events are to be held throughout the year. With members
being able to contribute their own experiences the group provides the
opportunity for information economy, why reinvent the wheel. The meetings aim
is to stimulate discussion and to encourage knowledge transfer throughout the
community. A closed discussion list will be provided for members of the
group.

What happens?

Quarterly meetings, always in Scotland, will be held in addition to the news
group services. The first meeting will occur in the Easter timeframe,
including an evening event supported by Novell. Bleeding edge items such as
Sequoia, OES, implementation of technologies, evolution of the Linux Desktop,
pressing day-to-day issues such as GroupWise backup and much more will be
addressed.

We are pleased with the support and co-operation of Novell UK to the extent
that the level of information to be disseminated will require members to sign
a non disclosure agreement (NDA) due to its sensitive nature. This NDA will
not only cover the main meetings but also the attendant discussion list.
Therefore before you can fully subscribe to the group, you must complete a
Novell Non-Disclosure Agreement.

Can I join?

Membership is open to all but meetings will only be held in Scotland so you
need to be willing to travel to Scotland for the events if you are going to
obtain full benefit from your membership.

The aim of this group is to bring together the Novell community in Scotland,
to allow others to see the people's enthusiasm and hear how technology has
been made to work.

Please visit www.scot-tag.net and join up.

Scotland needs you.
