There is also another possible scenario:
1. Do a full backup of DATA for safety.
2. Brake the mirror and swap the first 36GB drive with a 72GB drive
3. don't remirror but create a new volume on the 72GB drive called
NEW_DATA.
4. Backup DATA and restore to DATA_NEW. (To minimize downtime
you can first do a full backup/restore during a slow time and then do an
incremental backup/restore after kicking out everyone the system).
ltenatively you can use the Novell Consolidation Utility to copy one
volume to another and keep all trustee info.
5 Dismount DATA volume and rename NEW_DATA on the 72GB to
DATA.
4. Remove second 36 GB drive and add the second 76GB drive and
remirror.
This way you don't need Portlock or ServerMagic to expand the
volumes and you also skip one of the two remirroring steps.

Subject: Data Volume size upgrade
I have a Dell PowerEdge 2550 server with two volumes, SYS and
DATA. (This
server has only four hot swap drive bays)
The HardWare level mirroring consists of two drives for the SYS
volume and also two 36GB drives for the DATA volume.
I need to increase the DATA volume to a 72GB mirrored volumes with
minimal down time.
I was hoping to take server down, pull a mirrored 36GB DATA volume
drive out and replace with a 72GB. Power up server and run the
Perc3/Di config utility. Add this drive to missing mirror set. Allow this to
get mirrored.
In a day or two, take down the server and replace the second 36GB
drive with a 72GB drive. Power up server and run the Perc3/Di config
utility. Allow it to mirror. Check and test the server in another day or so
by doing a reboot and confirm that it's ok.
Next the two options would be:
1. to create a second NetWare partition for the remainder of the 72GB
mirrored drive set and then add that space to the existing DATA
volume. (this would mean having two NetWare Partitions on a single
drive, which would mean having a DATA volume spanning two
NetWare partitions) How does the FAT and the DET work in a situation
such as this? Does each partition have it's own set? Would this benefit
access time? (or am I flirting with possible disaster)
2. Use Portlock or Server Magic to expand the original NetWare
partition to the full 72GB size. (Does Portlock and Server Magic
expand the volume at the same time or separately?
P.S. Any recommendations for what would be the product of choice?
Thanks in Advance!
