If your still looking for LDAP info, I saw this today and remembered your
post:

Surprisingly, few people seem to know about LDAP -- providing ample
opportunity to gain a new skill and put yourself more in demand. You
can learn more about LDAP from
http://www.oblix.com/pointofentry/ldap/index.html and
http://www.kingsmountain.com/ldapRoadmap.shtml. The LDAPCentral site
lists a number of books that provide even more information.

The primary Linux LDAP package, called OpenLDAP, can be downloaded from
http://www.openldap.org/. With this package, you can run an LDAP server
on your own system to gain experience. On a side note, I've had much
better luck with OpenLDAP on Linux than on Solaris.

Typically called a single sign on system, these LDAP servers provide a
single login point for the entire environment, or network. When
connecting to other systems throughout the organization, the required
user ID and password are automatically accessed from the LDAP server.
Hence, users aren't constantly prompted for user names and passwords.
LDAP also makes building systems that integrate data from other systems
easier.

Most large companies are looking at creating a single sign on system,
or have done so already, and most systems integration projects could
use such a system. Microsoft's Active Directory Service (ADS) and
Novell's Novell Directory Service (NDS), for example, both support
LDAP. All of these reasons makes learning LDAP important.
