   I was wondering can you repair your installation of linux if certain files
   have been deleted with the distro cd just like with Win NT/2000?  I
   appreciate any input thanks.

You can check which package contained the deleted files ('rpm -qf /dir/path/file')
and then force reinstalling the package ('rpm --force -Uvh package.rpm')
