Mary, I've seen numerous cases of the agents just die with no trace. Nothing in the \
log files, they just stop logging and the poa is dead with no process running at all. \
This includes 801hp1 code. I've seen this with the the poa, mta, and gwia with \
various customers. Best thing to do is configure system to capture a core, send it \
to Novell, and let them figure out what caused the crash. The nice thing is that \
Novell usually turns it around pretty quick. I know that many of the fixes are to be \
included in sp2, from what I have been told. Another thing I have observed -- in \
most cases, it was a random and sporadic crash at first, then it turned into a 2-3 \
time per day occurrence resulting in much frustration.. so definitely get the core as \
soon as possible.
The instructions for configuring to create a core are out there, i don't have them \
handy. unfortunately you have to let it crash again before you solve it.

We're on 8.0.1 HP1 all around. Which is why I find it odd...

What version.
I had this happen before patching 8.0.1 to hp1 some time back. The MTA and somtimes \
POA would just crash without a trace.
Nothing in the logs, history etc.
Now on sp1 and all is OK.

Just curious if anyone else has seen this or if someone's just pulling a prank on me.
Our primary MTA shut down unexpectedly last night at roughly 17:30. All logs prior \
to this morning are gone, but there are already 2 logs from this morning for the MTA. \
Anyone have any insights as to why the logs prior to this morning may be gone? At \
this point I have no way to find the culprit, other than knowing that someone "may" \
have had access to the server console (this is a virtual server on VMWare) and at \
some point in time someone ran an "rcgrpwise stop" which succeeded in stopping the \
MTA but failed on the GWIA. The GWIA has been up for 20 days. Odd...and of course \
it has to happen when I'll be gone for 2 days.
Thanks!
Mary
