Yes, a recent article in Connection magazine went so far as to say you didn't even \
need exchange servers on the backend anymore with full support of the Outlook client \
in gw7.

Doesn't GW7 fully support use of the Outlook client? I don't recall if it required \
an in-between piece (server side) or not but full Outlook access to a GW PO was \
displayed at BS this year.
So David, your VIP can have his Outlook without the move :)

I don't know if this helps, but you might try asking Microsoft how much
it will cost to run a same sized system. We had a manager here who did
just that, and the answer was honest (and yes, more expensive).

Specifically, our manager called Microsoft pre-sales, and asked to
arrange a telephone meeting where some Microsoft engineers would also be
present. At the tele-con, our manager described the number of users,
the amount of disk space we have, how many messages we move per month (I
think he avoided mentioning it was GroupWise). Note that it did take
some research to be ready with this information. Today, you'd have to
be careful that they don't lowball the number by 'assuming' offline /
caching mode.

Anyway, Microsoft's engineers answered truthfully, and told us we would
need two email administrators and about eight servers.

Then, our manager sprung on them the fact that we were running the
whole GroupWise system with ½ an administrator, and six servers. The MS
sales guy on the call spent the next five minutes backpedaling on the
two-administrators requirement.... ;-)

Not that we are out of the woods - the biggest VIP here wants MS
Outlook, and cost does not appear to be a factor. But that is a
different battlefront.

Still fighting the GroupWise vs Exchange issue.

I am looking for some unbiased research, say Gartner, Yankee Group,
etc.
that shows GroupWise vs Exchange, or the high cost of migration vs lack
of
return.

I need the material from an independent, outside 3rd party. If it
comes
from Novell, or has the Novell logo on the pages, my persistent CFO
will
think that the material is Novell tainted.

Any links or suggestions out there?

THANKS!
