No, not really. The idea is to use prepared statements and parameter 
substitution, hence the SQL you saw with '?' characters was intended. As 
you didn't describe your problem much further, I'm not entirely sure 
what was wrong with the old code and haven't had a chance to write a 
test harness yet.

In the process of looking for that documentation I saw autoPrepare which 
I hadn't seen before, which is even better, so I will rewrite insert

In any case what you've done is fine for now - it works. Sorry for the 
inconvenience, as I said I haven't had a chance to fully test that 
code...
