hello.  ive compiled iptables et all in my kernel, but when i modprobe 
ip_tables, i get this:

/lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: unresolved symbol 
nf_unregister_sockopt
/lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: unresolved symbol 
nf_register_sockopt
/lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: insmod 
/lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o: insmod ip_tables 
failed

ive seen this posted before, but nobody replied to any of them, and its 
really hard to search the archives, as that feature isnt available, so sorry 
if this has been answered already, but i cant find it...
