I'm glad that they did, by the way. I've been a big advocate of their
doing precisely this in order to cut off endless and circular
debates. OTOH, it might be good if they sent out a "we're going to
make a decision about this matter -- send us private comments on your
opinion if you want to be heard.".

Oh, yes. Absolutely. Even if the decision stands, it is far more
important that they made a decision!
