Just an FYI, after havign problems for ages with my automake, I've tracked down the \
problem.  I had recent versions of automake and autoconf installed as part of my \
redhat installation (7.1 I believe), however libtool was built from source.

The problem seems to have gone away now I've got a later version of the libtool (and \
libtool-libs and automake) rpms and installed them.

So I guess its advisable to have either all three installed as source or installed as \
rpm but a mix causes problems.
