Hello everybody,

I have a small home LAN comprising both older (Sys 7.6) and newer (OS X
10.4.2) Macs, and of course, they won't talk to each other via AppleTalk.
Therefore I am investigating the possibility to have my linux server act as
a sort of bridge and translator between the two. In practice, what I'd like
to achieve is this:

- the linux server (netatalk 2.0.2) hosts a proxy server for the Mac OS X
machines;
- I go to the Chooser in an old machine, I see the proxy, I connect to it
and access the files which reside on the new machine.

I tried various configurations of afpd.conf on the server, but the best
I've come up with is this:

- -noslp -ipaddr 192.168.0.2 # this is on the server itself
"Mac mini - proxy" -proxy -ipaddr 192.168.0.5 -noslp # this should be
proxying for the Mac mini

With this setup I can see the proxy in the old machines' Chooser and the
connection process seems to work, but what I get is the share I set up on
the server itself, and not the Mac mini.

So my question is, what am I missing? Or did I simply misunderstand the -
proxy option and what I'm trying to achieve is not possible?

Thanks, and Happy New Year!

Damiano
