The largest scale netatalk installation that I am currently involved with
consists of:
Servers:
RH 7.2 - netatalk 1.5.3.1:
This server is used to netboot over 50 imac machines. This setup is used at a
High School. This gives me absolute control over the software on every iMac in
the labs. This has been very successful, performance is incredible, average
boot time is usually between 15-25 seconds, and in that time you have a fully
functional OS9.2.2 machine, with tons of programs at your fingertips :)

Along with this server we have another RH box (similar setup) for student file
space.
1200 users
I have netatalk mounting user home dirs as their volumes.
The good : Compared to the OSx10.1 server we use as well, reliability is much
better. The box just never crashes. Using linux quotas works great.
The bad: Difficult to backup/recover data. Casesensitivity issues.
Application specific saving issues (some adobe products). Harder for users to
change passwd.(Currently I am using poppassd, and have a cgi script that passes
info to poppassd. This works great, and have had no problems, and the students
caught on quick.

I also have a server with same config for Mac imaging. (HD cloaning)
