Hi,
I install recently version windows XP  v.5.5 of net-snmp.

I have a string filed.

snmpset -v 2c -t 3 -r 1 -m all -O sq -c private 192.168.100.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.XXXX.2.99.1.1.2.1.4.1.2.8 x %1

%1 is once 7071BCF87B36 once 7071BCF87B1F

result is the following:
mac address 70:71:BC:F8:7B:36
C:\Program Files\ireasoning\mibbrowser\mibs>snmpget -v 1 -c public 192.168.100.1 .1.3.6.1.2.1.17.1.1.0
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.17.1.1.0 = STRING: "pq╝ �{:"

mac address 70:71:BC:F8:7B:1F
C:\Program Files\ireasoning\mibbrowser\mibs>snmpget -v 1 -c public 192.168.100.1 .1.3.6.1.2.1.17.1.1.0

How snmpget choice to answer in hex-string or in string format?
 I saw a similar issue but closed and without information to help me (year 2006).

It depends on whether the response is considered printable or not. But
