Summary: Problem with conf files in /var/net-snmp

Initial Comment:
net-snmp version 5.0.9
PHP version 5.4
Solaris 5.8

I am getting an error, but only occasionally, and only
when I use the proc_open or pcntl functions to fork
additional PHP processes.

The errors I get are:
Cannot rename /var/net-snmp/snmpapp.conf to
/var/net-snmp/snmpapp.0.conf Cannot unlink
/var/net-snmp/snmpapp.conf Cannot unlink
/var/net-snmp/snmpapp.0.conf

The PHP folks sent me here as they say this cannot be a
PHP issue.

Any help would be appreciated,

Steve Cersosimo

The bug is being marked pending and its priority is being lowered
due to a lack of response to questions from the developers.

Pending bugs will be deleted if no response is received within a
reasonable amount of time.

Can you try setting SNMP_PERSISTENT_FILE as explained in the
message below?

This issue remains unresolved, but I have a theory as to
what is happening.

PHP is running in SAPI mode as nobody from Apache. When I
run programs from the command line, I am root. If both
Apache and I try to initiate apps at the same time that try
to create the "persistant conf files", one of us gets the
errors described below.

Steve, were you able to resolve the permissions issue?

OK - then I'd probably want to try copying and/or moving
'snmpapp.conf' to 'snmpapp.0.conf' and back - by hand,
but running as "nobody".

Who currently owns "snmpapp.conf" ?

Permissions on /var/net-snmp are 777.
/var/net-snmp/snmpapp.conf exists, but
/var/net-snmp/snmpapp.0.conf usually does not. PHP runs as
root from the command line, but as nobody when in SAPI mode
from Apache. I have tried messing with the permissions to
no avail.

Thanks for looking into this.

On a side note (completely unrelated), I tried upgrading to
the 5.2.1 release, but got sporadic MALLOC errors which
caused PHP to seg fault. Rolled back to 5.0.9 and have not
gotten any since. Very strange.

What are the permissions on the /var/net-snmp directory?
Do the files /var/net-snmp/snmpapp.conf and/or
/var/net-snmp/snmpapp.0.conf exist?
If so, who owns them, and what are the permissions?

What user does the PHP script run as?
