After that snmp agent stops responding. Use of -f and -L
flag does not help. There are no error messages
displayed.

version: net-snmp-5.0.7-2mdk

Is this a consistent problem or intermittent?
Does it always fail at the same point?

If so, try restarting the agent and running the single
command
     snmpgetnext -r 0 -t 600 .... hrSWInstalledLastUpdateTime.0

(or whatever the last entry returned is)

I have seen the same thing happen on my IA-64 box. It stops
at the same OID and then the daemon is unresponsive (dies).
Did you ever find a solution/patch for this?

I saw a simillar issue when I had some stale filesystems, I
was able to
hang it with either a stale nfs mount or a stale samba
mount. My setup was RH9 with net-snmp-5.0-8. Don't know if
this helps you but I figured it is worth a shot.
