Fluxbox is a Unix window manager based around a slightly older project called
Blackbox.

The reason why folks are talking about Fluxbox here is that it provides for
Window level tab switching. A while back I was heavily pushing the idea over
on the KDE Usability list, but not much interest was generated. During this
discussion I did up some screen shots of this behavior in action, working
alongside KDE kinda stuff.

Lots of tabby goodness there. Mozilla with tabs, tabbed alongside Konqueror,
Nedit, Gimp, and a bunch of other stuff. Not really practical to use it as
shown, as I was attempting to illustrate the kind of things that could be
done. I'm sure you could imagine more practical uses as to how you would put
this to use.

Fluxbox has other good stuff about it as well, but this window level tabbing
really sets it apart from the pack. I should note that it is up to the user
as to whether you want tabs to show up or not, and it can be configured to be
application specific. It's an outstanding way to get NEdit tabbing without
having application support built in. Unfortunately, I have a variety of
reasons why I stick with using the standard KDE window manager at the moment.

BTW, Fluxbox runs in Cygwin as well. All good stuff! :)
