The original article proposed adding suffixes to the right hand side of
real registered domain addresses. The example of the proposed change was
that .stride.com become .stride.com.rno (rno = airport code for Reno, NV
apparently).

Most Internet sites pass mail directly via the Internet.
The problem the author sees is cross-country routing of mail on uucp.
The solution is a better mail transport mechanism not a change in an
already working domain-name system. The creation of the .US domain to
handle small sites including the uucp sites should help with routing in
uucp and between Internet and non-Internet sites in any event.
I gather from the proposal that stride.com is not on the Internet directly.
I disagree with his idea as much as I disliked the BITNET proposal earlier.
