Well yes, but that isn't quite what I was driving at, though I guess I
didn't say it terribly well.  What happens when we exceed 255?  Presumably
you'll increase the range.  It doesn't take much increase in the range
to make the bit field inordinately long.  The problem is that the bit field
increases in size proportional to the potential number of ports, while
a sparse array increases in size proportional the number of actual services
offered.

Anyway, I don't feel strongly enough on this issue to push it hard.  I
was mostly just surprised and somewhat curious.
