Bob - not sure if it will help you or not but I have found that for this 
to work properly the device *HAS* to be different between "Default" and 
"Bypass". As in, if I have both set to SPDIF, then I get the behaviour 
you describe. Only if I set "Default" to "SPDIF and set "Bypass" to the 
IEC device, then I get the expected correct behavior.
