I am running same version as you built from source on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS 
with no problems.

my configuration is minimal as in :

./configure --disable-ccache

Having previously cleaned source tree
git clean -xfd
git reset --hard
git pull --rebase

Here is my mythbackend version output:
mythbackend --version
Please attach all output as a file in bug reports.
